The Natural History Museum guides you through 4.6 billion years of our planet's history. With the millions of historical collections housed here, the museum exhibitions take you from the sea to sky, and beyond, and allows you to explore the history of nature. Here you can see historical collections and displays of animal taxa, from the smallest to largest, plant taxa, space and geological specimens, the Anthropocene and human evolution.

What you see is only a snippet of the 80 million collections the museum has built, curated and stored since 1881. Alongside exploring the public collections in the museum, we are organising behind the scenes tours of collections led by curators within the museum. Click the button below to check out what we'll be seeing on the tours on the away day.

The Contemplation Room

This is a quiet room with natural light, used for prayer and reflection. Please inform us if you will need to use this room.

Cafés

There are a range of cafes throughout the museum where you can purchase drinks, snacks and food during the day. Please note these may be busy and that food bought from here can be covered by your RTSG (don’t forget to ask for a receipt). The Cafes are T-Rex restaurant (Green Zone), Central Cafe (Blue Zone), Earth Hall Cafe (Red Zone) and The Shake Bar (Orange Zone). 

The Cocoon

Located in the Darwin Centre, Orange zone, the cocoon holds the museum's 20 million entomology and botany collections. This is currently closed to the public, but can be seen by those booked onto the Entomology Tour.

Picnic area

If you are bringing your own food, there is a picnic area on the lower ground floor of the Green Zone.

Flett Lecture Theatre

The Flett Theatre is booked out for the duration of the conference, here you can use this space to have a break or some quiet. Bags and coats can also be stored here and will be monitored by a member of staff, please do not leave any valuables in your bags where possible.
