GUIDELINES

This page will go through what is expected from you whether you're doing a 2-minute flash talk as a first year or a poster and presentation as second and third years.

Flash talks

All new first year students will give a two-minute flash talk, introducing themselves and more importantly, their projects.

The guidelines are as follows:

  • One slide lasting two minutes ONLY. You may present anything you wish on the one slide. Flash talks will be kept strictly to time, and there will be no questions.

  • Things you may want to include: giving the audience a (very) brief background to your project, some basic aims and your plan moving forward.

The guidelines are as follows:

  • Printed in size A0 (84.1 x 118.9cm)

Presentations

Students are expected to give a 10-minute talk on part of their work so far (this can be anything the student wishes). This will be followed by 3 minutes of questions from the audience.

The guidelines are as follows:

  • Talks are allowed as many slides as the speaker wishes, however talks will be kept strictly to the 10-minute time limit.

  • Please present in roughly the format of a scientific presentation, including Background, Methods, and Results.
